From the video’s description on YouTube
Anxiety about weighing in at the doctor is very common. Even doctors feel vulnerable when they step on the scale.
But it’s important to understand this - to give you the best possible care, your doctor needs to know your weight.
Many medications are dosed based on weight, so if your doctor doesn’t have an accurate weight for you, your dose could end up being too low to be effective or too high to be safe.
Doctors also use weight to recommend treatment plans for weight-related conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and heart disease.
For a bariatric surgeon like me, weight is a reference point, like another vital sign, that I use to gauge if a treatment is working, or if we should switch gears and try something new.
Your doctor should never treat you poorly because of your weight. If that’s happened to you, your feelings are valid, and I’m sorry. I hope you’re willing to give a different doctor a chance and that these negative experiences become more and more rare as doctors like me be the change they want to see in others.
