Getting bariatric surgery is just one step on your weight loss journey. To obtain and maintain the best possible results, you’ll need to avoid slipping back into old habits after surgery.
Here are some tips for how to do this:
1⃣ Mindful Eating - Keep a log of what you eat so you can better understand your weight loss. Slow down, enjoy your food, and listen to your body. And identify and avoid the triggers that make eating well difficult. (Don’t keep unhealthy snacks in the house, ask your server not to bring the chips and salsa, etc.)
2⃣ Stay Active - Find physical activities that you love doing and make a habit of doing them regularly. Dancing, walking, hiking, even gardening. Anything that gets you up and moving.
3⃣ Hydration - Water is your best friend after surgery. It keeps you full and helps with fatigue. Try keeping a water bottle on you at all times, or using an alarm on your phone to remind you to drink enough to meet your goals.
4⃣ Build a Strong Support System - Surround yourself with people who will help you meet your goals. Weight loss support groups are a powerful resource for this.
How did you build your healthy habits? It might help someone else!
