Does insurance cover bariatric surgery? Let’s clear it up

A lot of people feel overwhelmed trying to figure out if their insurance covers bariatric surgery—and honestly, it can be confusing.

Many insurance plans DO cover it.
But some employers choose to exclude bariatric surgery completely.
If that’s the case for your plan, there’s not much that can be done—but self-pay options are available (and we try to keep pricing competitive!).

If you are covered, you’ll need to meet certain medical criteria:
BMI over 40
OR BMI over 35 with obesity-related conditions
Psychiatric clearance
Nutrition visits (usually 1–12)
Possibly imaging, cardiac clearance, or a sleep study
Every insurance plan is different, so it’s important to confirm your coverage before seeing a surgeon—that way you’re informed and ready.
