Many people don’t know this, but obesity is one of the leading causes of rising infertility rates in the United States.

The good news is, getting bariatric surgery and losing weight can give you a higher chance of getting pregnant and reduce the risk of obesity related pregnancy complications.

As a general rule, you should wait at least 18 months after your surgery to try to conceive so your weight is stable and your body can maintain enough protein and key vitamins to fully support a developing fetus.

Your doctor can give you more specific information about when it’s safe to try for a baby.

You should also tell your OB team that you’ve had bariatric surgery so they can better understand your body and give you the best possible care.
