DFW Bariatrics and General Surgery, Dr. Sachin Kukreja’s practice, posted this video on its YouTube channel on February 26, 2025.
From the video’s description on YouTube
A good general goal for protein intake after a surgery is 60 to 80 grams of protein per day after gastric bypass, or around 100 grams of protein per day after a duodenal switch.
Your body can’t absorb more than around 30 grams of protein at once, so you’ll need to eat small meals or snacks throughout the day to meet your protein goals. And since your stomach is smaller post-surgery, you should eat your protein first during meals in case you get full quickly.
Some great sources of protein include:
Protein powders and shakes
Eggs
Lean meats
Seafood
Dairy products (especially Greek yogurt and cottage cheese)Good vegan options include:
Chickpeas
Corn
Spinach
Artichoke hearts
EdamameAnd if you’re looking for meal inspiration, I post delicious high-protein recipes on my TikTok every week. Check them out!
