Choosing the right bariatric surgeon is crucial to your success. Here are my top tips to help you find the right surgeon.
Check their credentials and expertise.
General surgeons *can* perform bariatric surgery, but I recommend finding a surgeon who specializes in it. There are special certifications, training, fellowships, and memberships out there to make sure that we can provide the best and highest quality of care to our bariatric patients.Read reviews for that surgeon.
There will be some bias to sort through, but pay attention to any common themes that come up in reviews. If everyone has said something about that surgeon that doesn’t sit right with you, listen to your gut.Understand their philosophy and logistics.
Some patients know what they want, want it done quickly, and want it done as cheap as possible–and that works for them. If you’re looking for a surgeon who provides pre-op and post-op support, its important to be honest about those expectations.There are great surgeons everywhere! Just do your research and as long as they are well trained, treating you with respect, and you feel comfortable with what they are offering–you will do great.
