When you’re on vacation, one of the hardest parts about staying on track with your post-bariatric surgery diet is the hotel breakfast buffet.

Here are some tips to avoid overindulging and derailing your progress:

Research your hotel before your trip so you understand your food options before you get there. You can pack your own food if there are few healthy options available.

Use a smaller plate. Less food on your plate means less food you’re tempted to eat.

Go for high-protein, low carb options like eggs, cold meats, cooked sausage and bacon.

Avoid sugary cereals, hashbrowns, baked goods, cheesy potatoes, and other high carb foods.

Watch out for hidden calories - fruit and juice might look healthy, but they contain sugars that can drive up your calorie count without you noticing.

Alcohol is pure carbs and empty calories. If you drink, drink in moderation.
