Hoping to schedule bariatric surgery soon? It might be trickier for a few months. The end of the year is always a busy time for surgeons — let’s talk about why.
It all comes down to insurance.
Most health insurance plans in the U.S. have a deductible and a maximum out-of-pocket limit that resets annually. At this point in the year, a lot of people have hit their deductible (if not also their out of pocket max). Scheduling an elective procedure before that limit resets can save people a lot of money, so surgery clinics see an uptick in appointments as people try to squeeze in every medical expense they can.
Don’t lose hope though! In these busier months, you can still get your weight loss journey started. Connect with your care team about starting the necessary preparation for surgery and anything else you can do to keep moving forward, even if actual surgery needs to wait.
Remember While it may not be ideal, having your surgery at the beginning of next year has the potential to help save on other medical expenses in 2025.
